Does snow affect your small businesses productivity?
Today the south of England has experienced the first significant snowfall of 2013, and understandably some people haven’t been able to get to their offices. Our phones & email have been so quiet today that by 11am we’re wondering just how many clients are working today!
Despite the snow, our team at ITC are all hard at work, with Andrzej & Marta in the office at Southampton, and Rupert & Kate working at their respective homes, our productivity basically unaffected by the weather.
How do we manage to maintain our productivity? We take advantage of the Internet!
Like most small businesses, communication & collaboration is the key to ITC’s productivity. Here’s how we’re set up:
Phones: VoIP telephones allow us to work anywhere we have an Internet connection, and still make & receive calls as if we’re in the office
Email: We can log on to our cloud based email service from any device, anywhere we happen to be.
Support Ticketing & Billing Systems: Our support & billing systems are both hosted on our web servers, and can be accessed from web browsers with IP restrictions for additional security.
Documents: Our file server in the office can be accessed remotely via secure VPN connections which are managed by our Draytek Routers, allowing us to access our documents as if we were standing next to the server.
We’re not pretending that the snow doesn’t affect our business at all, and in particular post & deliveries may be delayed, and providing on-site technical support to clients will be harder or need to be postponed until we can travel safely.
Thankfully we’re not waiting for anything urgent to be delivered, and have plenty of work to do in the office and remotely for clients covered by our Computer Care Plans, so all in all, it’s nice to be able to catch up. Can we have a snow day each month?
How productive has your small business been today?
