To save more time by making your computer run even faster book our PC MOT & tune-up and we’ll complete optimising your computer’s powers in 18 more advanced steps.
The first rule of the thumb to make your computer run faster: Clean your desktop!
Is your Desktop flowered (or scattered if you can face the truth) with icons? While we understand that many of those icons were on there for a reason — you wanted quick access, due to the clutter with all the other icons that you either voluntarily or involuntarily (through program installations) created, that “quick access” which you are seeking has become counter productive as a messy computer desktop is far less efficient. Therefore, keep the shortcuts to the programs you use regularly and drag the remaining ones to the recycle bin. Finally, find the best location for those files that were temporarily saved on the desktop until they found a better ‘home’.
2.Uninstall unused programs
Over time, you may have collected programs on your computer that you no longer use. When a program is installed, it creates connections between the program and the operating system and as a consequence, even if you don’t use these programs, they can slow down your system. If you have the original program’s installation disk or file, removing programs will free up space on your computer and may speed up your system’s performance. How to do it?
Open Control Panel by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Control Panel.
Click Programs, and then click Uninstall.
Hover over a Program you no longer use and click Uninstall.
Repeat step 3 for every program you want to Uninstall.
3. Stop a program from running automatically when Windows starts
You can improve your computer’s performance by preventing unnecessary programs from running automatically when Windows starts, where by unnecessary programs we mean the ones you don’t use regularly, but from time to time only. Here’s how to do it:
Open Search box by clicking the Start button
Type in ‘msconfig’ and click enter.
In the Window which opens, click Startup.
Select the program that you want to prevent from running, and then click OK.
Repeat step 4 for every program you want to stop from running.
4. Make sure your hardware is adequate
